ROSELAND CHRISTIAN SCHOOL REUNITES ALUMNI

Sloppy joes and Jay’s potato chips…competitions for first chair in band…the window overlooking the “old gym”…. These and other fond memories were talked about at Roseland Christian School (RCS), 314 West 108th Street, in Chicago at a recent event organized by the Alumni Reactivation Committee. Appropriately named “Knights Reuniting Knights,” this event brought past RCS students and teachers together to fellowship in a familiar, nostalgic place. The committee was also able to inform people of upcoming events for the school’s 125th Anniversary and find out how alumni are willing to get involved.
RCS alumni and former and current staff arrived not knowing whom they would meet. Classes from the 1980s and 1990s had the best turnout as well as teachers who impressed all present with the many names and faces they quickly recalled. Student tour guides led visitors around the school, listening patiently while guests reminisced and remembered each room as they had last seen it. Groups returned to the gymnasium for food, sharing old photos, reconnecting, and retelling school history as well as receiving current school information. It was a blessing and a joy to recognize how far God has taken each person. For alumni who missed it, another opportunity to reconnect and engage current students is being planned.
The competitive spirit is heating up at RCS as several alumni members have challenged the boys and girls 6th, 7th, and 8th grade basketball teams to a 2-game event in the gym at the school on Saturday, March 14, at 1 p.m. There will be some special half-time events involving audience participation, and a nostalgic lunch of sloppy Joes, hot dogs and chips available for purchase. Ticket prices are $10 per person and $25

maximum per family and can be bought in the school office or by going to the website at www.roselandchristian.org. RCS alumni who want to play may register by calling Roger DeGroot, Development Director, at 773-264-0534 or via email rsvp@roselandchristian.org
Alumni are invited to celebrate the impact RCS has had on their lives and join the entire population of RCS in thanking God for his providence in nurturing and sustaining a Christian school with such a rich history. They can support this fine institution by attending/volunteering at celebration events that are being planned during 2009. Visit www.WeAreRCS.com to find out more!
